What’s the difference between those who are and those who are not financially successful in a home based business opportunity? Only 5 percent of those that venture into this industry find real success. What’s worse is there are endless opportunities around us, yet the gap is widening on a daily basis. There are people that are building a successful home based business and developing a stable income. So what is it exactly that successful people have, that I like to call the X-Factor?
Thousands of articles have been written over the decades about how one should go about achieving success in a home based business opportunity. However, there seems to be several common attributes that all successful people have. They have a vision of where they are going, clearly defined goals and a good mentor to guide them along the journey. Yet there is one more trait or quality that seems to separate successful people.
Do you know what that is?
The one defining trait that stands head and shoulders above all of them is passion. It’s not something that you are taught in school or read in a text book, but is a deep burning desire within you. Just ask anyone that has developed a successful home based business and what the difference was for them. They will likely talk about things like having defined goals, persistence and finding a good mentor to work with. Yet if you dig deep, you will discover they all seem to have that unique passion.
If you have ever watched the movie called “The Pursuit of Happyness”, you will know exactly what I mean. Here is a story about Chris Gardner, who was down on his luck and desperately looking for a way to raise his family as a single parent. He was broke to the point he would have to stay in homeless shelters just to eat. He ultimately became successful and is a self made millionaire. So how did he do it and what did he possess that others did not? He faced more obstacles than many, yet somehow dug himself out of poverty. The one key ingredient that resonated throughout the movie, was his passion to succeed.
For me, my passion is seeing my wife being able to walk into her job and fire her boss. It’s not that she hates her job or anything like that, but its the ability to be around for our daughter. You see, when I was young, my mom was around when we left school in the morning and returned in the afternoon. My parents did not have to worry about who was raising their kids. Likewise, we do not want some stranger raising our child. Although my daughter is in school for several years, it is still a burning passion of mine to have my wife home to be there for our daughter.
Passion is the fuel that makes people do the things that will build a successful business opportunity no matter what the challenges are. Every one of us has the ability to be successful and its all about choices. If you do not have passion, then your chances of building any successful business is limited.
Anyone that has ever been successful in the home business industry, had passion. That is what I call the X Factor. So where will you be in 5 years? Take some time and really think about what is driving your inner passion to have success. Nobody ever said that building a successful home based business would be easy, but the freedom to live life on your terms is a great motivator.

Home Based Business - Programming Your Life For Success

We all have ambitions, goals, and dreams in life. So, what’s stopping you from developing a home based business opportunity and having the life that you want and deserve? Well, for many people, its that Four Letter word called Fear. You know, its that inner voice nagging at you with thoughts of; you can’t be successful, you won’t make any money, your family and friends will only laugh at you. Does some of that sound familiar? Well, if any of this applies to you, then invest a few minutes and find out what you can specifically do to re-program your life for success.
Fist, stop behaving like you are some kind of victim. Part of the fear factor, people get stuck in a rut or have a bad experience in starting a home based business and decide they will never try that again. The truth is, we all have experienced failures so that we can ultimately have successes. Stop and think about this for a minute. Imagine for a minute if people like Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan would have given up after a few mistakes?
We all have stories and rackets going on internally, but its the meaning we give it that determines of thought processes and how we react to people and situations. For example, do you get upset to the point of road rage when someone cuts you off while driving? If you do, then chill out. If I got upset each and every time someone cut me off, I would be mad all the time when driving. Stop majoring in the minor stuff of life.
Second, why does it really matter what anyone else thinks? This is your life we are talking about. So you need to make decisions that are best for you and your immediate family. Your wife or husband may not be involved in your particular business opportunity, but as long as they understand and are supportive, that is really all you should need. For example, my wife has not always been involved in some of the home based businesses I have done, but she has been supportive as far as saying, if it something that I wanted to do and doesn’t interfere with quality family time, then go for it. So, I work my home based business around other priority activities in our family.
Vision - The bigger - The better
Third, if you have no vision, then how do you expect to be successful. It would be the equivalent to taking a road trip and starting off in New York City and travelling across the United States and somehow ending up in some obscure town in California that you have never visited before. So, when you start doing some dreaming about your future, think big because you want to anchor it to a big enough Vision that will keep you focused and motivated to achieving your goals no matter what. Many people refer to this as your Why. Whatever you want to call it, go through the process and write it down.
To often we jump on the MLM train without really investigating or asking enough questions because someone who was a good sales person and convinced you that now is the time. You see, when someone suggests to me that I should do it now, I simply ask, what’s the hurry? If this so called home based business opportunity is so good today, then surely next week or next month it should be just as good.
My personal perspective is to investigate, ask lots of questions and until you get your questions answered to your satisfaction, avoid jumping on that train. There are thousands of opportunities available at any one time online.
Personal Development and Education
Fourth, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to invest into personal development and educational programs. Part of the reason, we are exposed to so much negativity at anyone time during the day, its no wonder we have a lot of stinking thinking going on inside of us. So the first step is to get into a new mental paradigm shift and stop feeding your mind negative stuff all the time. If you feed it negative stuff all day long, then guess what? That’s right, you might just be tainted and develop a negative mindset. If you feed your mind positive stuff, guess what? You might just end up thinking positive and looking for ways to improve your life.
If you want to change your mindset, then change your surroundings and start hanging around successful people. You might be thinking that’s kind of hard to give up on friends you have had for many years. Nope, I never said to get rid of your long term friends. But ask yourself, what is your friendship costing you in terms of a quality of life? They say your income is the average of your closest 5 to 10 friends. Maybe the same could be said about your mental state as well.
Action
You can listen to all of the personal development, weekly conference calls and attend all of the corporate functions available throughout the year, but unless you take daily action to produce results, nothing tangible will really happen in your life. You see if about utilizing a variety of skill sets each day to design your life. Yes, I mean design your life.
Being empowered is good, but taking action and producing results is what you must ultimately do in any home based business opportunity if you want success. There are simply no short cuts in life and there are no free rides. It will always be a combination of multiple steps and actions that produces success. I think to many people wish things could be different, but they have not done anything to really improve their lives. Start building and designing your own life today.

I have chatted with various people over the years and I noticed patterns in terms of similar obstacles to overcome in developing a residual income in a home based business. Previously, a group of us had connected on line at a forum called Our Network Home. It has not existed for a few years now and too bad as it was a great place to invest a few minutes each day, learn and grow, read some posts and comment back. However, for some of us that have been around the forum for a while, we had a love/dislike relationship with it as some would question the direction the forum was taking and why do we need all this personal growth stuff. For example, at times I would grow impatient and I just wanted my coach to cut to the chase and tell me how to build a home based business.
Why would anybody dislike coming to a forum and reading material that helped us ask ourselves questions about leadership, relationships, partnerships etc? The product testimonies were great and so were the celebrations of success of building a residual income in a home based business. Sometimes we shared bad news like in our families. What was it that pushed those buttons during those periods?
For years I read numerous self-help materials. I thought I understood the theory. However, I truly didn’t think I needed it. I knew better. In fact I can remember many times thinking I could have delivered the material more effectively myself. I had a lot to learn back then and still do. Everyday is a journey, not a destination in building my home based business.
I didn’t want to hear about all the personal growth I needed to do as I was just focused on getting the job done of creating a residual income in a home based business. I believe everybody can relate. Just show me how and get out of my way. You know what though, I know many people in this world that have accumulated great wealth but the people that know them don’t respect them. I know several people like that in this very industry. I once knew a man that made 20K every month and those that got to know him really didn’t even like to be around him and certainly had no respect for him. That was at the beginning of my career and it confused me as to what was really important and why for building a home based business. He had what I wanted, success, but in reality he was quite poor.
A team needs everybody, new and old, successful and not yet successful. It doesn’t matter that I or others didn’t have a $10,000 a month residual income in a home based business. Everyone is inter-dependent upon each other. Everybody must learn this important lesson and will one way or the other. We ALL need each other!
Leaders can be well remunerated in ABC Company, however, who still want to become leaders. This is where our self-image can hit a wall and you know it. Some folks cannot yet see themselves as that leader on stage. This takes time for some people. Others want it so bad and are willing to work for it. But, are you willing to invest the time and dedication to be one?
Real leaders, those that are happy and successful at creating a healthy residual income in their home based business, have earned many people’s respect. That’s the Circle of Influence deal we are all working on. It really hurts to work through all those names and get rejected doesn’t it? Let’s ask ourselves a question shall we? How long does it take us to give our own respect to someone? 1 hour, 3 hours, 10? What is it that makes us respect another person? Is it really just a question of how much they earn?
Real leadership is given, never taken and one achieves it through failing often enough to learn the lessons. Real leadership, like respect, is earned. Those that have obtained a certain measure of a residual income are not always one to be admired or respected. So what is the answer to all of this?
Habits!!! Success habits come hard - don’t they? How many leads do we have to call before it becomes second nature and we are good at? How many friends and family have to turn us down until our resolve is so strong that we can exclaim Next! How many times do we have to do that self-examination of our beliefs before we change those that are not working? How long does it take us to really learn that it doesn’t hurt us to let another help us be better?
Successful habits can build a long term sustainable residual income and a solid home based business.
When we do the things that we don’t feel like doing, such as writing an article tonight or are afraid of doing and just do them anyhow we develop our character and leadership abilities. We invest time in people as we are in the people business, if we truly want a successful home based business. Mediocre people don’t. Leaders do. Leaders fail a whole lot on their path to earning respect and becoming successful.
True leaders that deserve respect have failed so much that they have learned about humility. They have learned how to be inter-dependent on others at helping each other in their respective home based business. Ever met an arrogant leader? In reality no, because real leaders are not arrogant. They have learned how to be servants, one day at a time, by habit.
During my journey for the past 10 years in this home based business industry, I have met many leaders. One man that stands out is Tom Prendergast - CEO - Veretekk. He doesn't take the easy road, but takes the path that is the right way to go, no matter how hard. What Tom shared several months ago, opened up my mind to why so many MLM people had failed because they followed a plan of duplication.

Myth or Reality
To me the total idea of having a home based business has become a world of broken promises and lies. Even with the greatest desire to fulfill my dreams of working from home it has been trounced by all the scam and so-called proven business opportunities on the Internet.
I have followed all the advice that one can find on the Internet about starting a Home based business. I Have done Due diligence on each opportunity that I have joined over the years, have spend numerous hours, more than I really care to admit to spending. The hours that have been spent working on the computer trying to advertise and get my business and product in front of a greater number of possible customers.
As with any Home based business there will be cost to start up, even if most things say you can start from free. I think that the word "Free" needs to be removed and or restricted in it use on the free Internet. Using free in advertising is a deception that myself and the majority of people fall for more times then not. But after falling for so many free things that has cost me money, I just delete any e-mail I get with free in it and by pass all the Internet garbage.
All in all though, I will continue to look at ways to start my own home based business, just knowing that the chances are very slim to none. Without a desire and a dream I am not sure what I would do, but glory be to God he has given me a desire to succeed. I hope that as everyone in this world looks for the same chance to work from home that each of them and myself will finally find the rainbow.
