What Matters in the Success of a Home Business?
When it comes to work at home businesses, I have been around. Having spent the last 10 years working on various home businesses, I have learned a few things a long the road to success. Stop and think for a moment about why such a small percentage of people are truly successful relative to the population. With so many opportunities around us, the gap seems to be widening each day between the wealthy and poor. There are people that are building a successful home business and developing a solid income, but most are just surviving paycheck to paycheck. What do successful people or what I call the X-Factor have in common? What is it that makes them not only stand out, but thrive?
What put them on the path to make money online consistently? Is it some special organization they belong to that gets tutored on the ways of the wealthy, or is there some home business course that explains exactly what they need to do to be successful? There is much debate and thousands of articles have been written about this subject matter, but they all seem to have several common characteristics. Several traits are; a vision, clear and defined goals, a good coach/mentor. One other trait that is very important for a successful home business is tenacity, or the determination to follow through.
For some it is any one or a combination of the traits mentioned above. For me it was passion that has stood out. It’s not something you are taught in school, read in a text book, but that which comes deep from within you. Think about the people that have developed a successful home business and created multiple steams of income. They all seem to have that unique quality of passion. For anyone that would like to see what passion is all about, check out Chris Gardner, the man behind the Pursuit of Happyness. Absolutely, one of the best movies in my opinion that demonstrates passion to the extreme. When you evaluate the characteristics of what Chris and what he personally had to overcome, I would suggest he had all of the above, but he has the drive and passion to overcome any obstacles. On a scale of 1 to 10, where are you on the scale of motivation? If you are only slightly motivated, I doubt if that will be enough.
People have different reasons for doing what they do, and different people are passionate about different things. My passion, which is to build a successful home business and create a a lifestyle of freedom that our family can enjoy, keeps me laser focused. That is what drives me, especially when I’m tired after a full 10 hour day at the job, yet still have passion and persistence to continue working late into the evening on developing our home business. Hey, nobody said this would be easy. Passion is that force within you that inspires you to get up early in the morning and late to bed. In other words, you can’t wait till the next morning to get up and out of bed. Are you truly serious and focused on what your dreams and aspirations are or do you just put life on cruise control? Either way, you are responsible for your life and nobody else. It is you - and only you - that steers your ship. Make sure you steer your ship with the passion that steers you to the success you have envisioned for yourself.

A Roadmap to Success – Home Based Business by Darrell Lischka
Part 1
Have you ever wanted to start a home based business? Do you know how to develop a passive residual income or start a home business? Why do you want a home based business? These are important questions you must ponder and give some thought to. How do I get started or where do I go to learn about all this stuff? If you are reading this, I hope it’s because you wish to build a peaceful residual income and take control of your life.
From all that I have learned, read and observed over the past 10 years in the network marketing profession, successful people have 3 common traits that they have to build a solid passive residual income.
Those 3 elements are:
(1) A big “Why”
(2) Heart
(3) Being Coachable
Without those 3 elements as a foundation, everything else doesn’t matter in my opinion. You see - those 3 critical traits sets the stage for building a successful home based business and going through the ups and downs of creating a residual income. One must seriously consider their “Why” – because it will require they invest 10-15 hours a week over the next 3 to 5 years minimum if they want a solid home business. If it’s only for the money, they will not last because money at some point in the future will not be the driving force to building a passive residual income. Your why is your core desire about why you want to invest so much time in a home based business and what is it that you truly want out of life. For example, it could be to have your significant other home with the kids on a full time basis. It could be to have a better quality of life for your family, taking an extra vacation, purchasing a new vehicle or all of the above.
In other words, is your “why” big enough to push you through those challenging times when your business is not going so well or its late at night and your tired in need of some sleep. Successful people have a big why and are willing to forgo some sleep, invest some extra time away from the family to get the business going. By the way, to have a successful home based business and develop a residual income, you will sacrifice some time with your family. It’s simply not possible to work full time, develop a home business and devote the same time to your family. I’m not suggesting this will last forever, but your why needs to be important enough that you understand the reason you are doing this home based business. It’s because you want a better quality of life.
The second element is you need to truly care about helping others succeed and having a heart. Help enough people get what they want and you will in time achieve your level of success in a home based business. If you are only in this for yourself, good luck. Over the years I have seen many people fail in our business who didn’t fully understand the truth in that line. They felt they didn’t need the “Personal Growth” material, all they needed were the mechanics, and the Nuts & Bolts, scripts etc and they would just “do it”. With a touch of arrogance perhaps they just felt they knew all about that stuff and were above taking the time to learn how to become more every day.
Leaders are readers and understand that nobody is ever finished that journey. That one major quality of all real leaders is that they constantly are working upon themselves to be better and more each day. Remember, this is a people business and you need to invest time in people and develop a relationship over the long term to create a truly successful home based business and have a solid residual income in network marketing.
The third element and perhaps one of the most important is how coachable are you. Our business is a “People Business”. We are in the business of attracting quality people and helping them enhance their lives by enhancing the lives of others. If you are the type of person that knows it all, good luck again. It doesn’t hurt you to let someone else help you be successful in your home based business. I learned this from a very good friend and my coach – Cameron Howard. We used to butt heads a lot many years ago and still do some days, but I can truly say without hesitation that I have learned so much from him and am very thankful that he invested time with me. A good coach and mentor will be your roadmap, invest time in you and help you become successful to the best of their abilities.
We must be coachable to attract other people that are also coachable. As we grow into a stronger position of leadership, we develop the skills to coach the coaches to coach the coachable. Everybody is always a Leader-In-Training and remains so.
So, are you coachable? Take a moment and look at the results in your life to date and ponder where you may have been more trainable and thus more successful. Perhaps you have read all “those” books and feel you know better. If you attract others just like yourself, and you will – are they going to succeed with their present attitudes and philosophies? Experience has proven to us that only those that are truly coachable grow into positions of leadership. All leaders are fully aware that they must first be followers and remain open minded to learning more always. Does that describe you?
A good coach and mentor, is about being a friend and creating a relationship, realizing it just takes time. Respect is earned. If we do not invest time in people we will not be successful, thus we will not be able to develop a solid residual income or have a successful and long lasting home based business. The secret is to develop the skill to know who best to invest our time with. People are an intangible thing. It takes time to truly get to know another person and even at that we only know most people somewhat. To further complicate matters, there is no way to know beforehand just who is going to be successful. There is no way to truly be sure if a person’s desire to BE Free is so strong that they will go through the obstacles on the path to success. Many people enter our home business with a ton of people handling skills, leadership experience, family needs etc, in short, all that one would think they need to be tremendously successful and they never do a thing. Others, with little experience etc just go out and “do it” because they want it so bad they will pay the price to learn the skills necessary to succeed.
There is no proven way to measure the “Right Stuff” of a person until they are actually in the field doing it. There are “leading indicators” that suggest the potential is there however. These take time to ascertain and become aware of. It can’t be done effectively and consistently in a 5 or 10 minute conversation. It just takes time to get to know people and for them to get to know us. If you want a solid home based business and a solid residual income, realize you need to invest time in people, develop respect for each other and be a friend.
All of the skills needed to build a peaceful residual income are learnable. Every single person reading this document can BE another success story and have a solid home based business. Everybody!

When you dream about a business you need to know what you want to do, how you want to do it, then implement what your dream looks like. Does this happen over night? No! You have to perform specific functions to achieve the end result in starting a home based business. In other words, it all starts with developing a detailed business plan.

Then you need a mentor to help you plan your home business, this is called a business plan. This plan guides you through the steps of what you have to accomplish in starting a home business. It's a road map for your business.

What I discovered along the way, there is a company out there that solves one of the biggest problems for individuals trying to build a home based business.
